About the Celebration
Kwanzaa 2025 invites you into a week of cultural pride, unity, and connection along the vibrant Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Rooted in African traditions and shaped by the strength of our modern community, this celebration is a space to honor our heritage, uplift our families, and rise together with purpose.
Created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966, Kwanzaa is a cultural holiday dedicated to strengthening African identity and community values. Each of the seven days centers on one principle of the Nguzo Saba, guiding us toward collective empowerment and deeper cultural pride.
In Costa Rica, surrounded by the rhythm of the sea and the warmth of the Afro-Caribbean community, Kwanzaa becomes more than a holiday — it becomes a homecoming.

The Location
Cahuita and the surrounding Caribbean region of Costa Rica hold deep Afro-descendant history, culture, and soul. This land carries ancestral energy, powerful rhythms, and a community rooted in unity — making it the perfect home for an international Kwanzaa gathering.
Here, the beaches, food, music, and people become part of the celebration, reminding us that our culture lives everywhere we go.
